Tate Residences recognised by the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards

Tate Residences has received an award from the Sussex Heritage Trust in the “Large-Scale Residential” category.

The nine-storey building forms part of the larger masterplan for the Sussex County Cricket grounds in Hove and features 37 apartments, a basement car park, commercial spaces and a bar/restaurant. The design pays homage to the natural beauty of Sussex and blends traditional materials with a contemporary, sustainable approach. The distinctive horizontal balcony lines echo the natural striations of chalk, complemented by a material palette dominated by white brick, complemented by darker metallic ceramic tiles.

When visiting the project, the judges said:

“A building that makes a dramatic impact now upon the main entrance to Sussex County Cricket Club. Striking chalk-coloured brickwork with marked shadows created by the deep balconies. (…) The replacement “Sussex Cricketer” pub was well-designed, generously proportioned and offered a club-type atmosphere.”

“The vision for Tate Residences was to create a striking building that marks the entrance to the cricket ground within the street scene and enhances the public’s arrival experience at the ground. For the project to be given a Sussex Heritage Trust Award is a true honour and is a testament to the vision and dedication of the entire project team.”

Stuart Eatock, ECE Managing Director

The awards ceremony was held in the impressive Lancing College Chapel and was attended by Stuart Eatock (ECE Managing Director), Toine Hodgkiss (ECE Associate), Chris Barker (ECE Planning Managing Director), and Ben Cheal (Roffey Homes).
