The planning application for the redevelopment of a former bus station site in Lewes, East Sussex has been approved by the South Downs National Park Authority.
Working with Generator Group, Trinity Gables includes the construction of a mixed-use development comprising 35 new homes and ground-floor commercial space.
Private amenities include a communal roof terrace, balconies and a private garden. Plans to improve the surrounding public realm consist of new footpaths and landscaping with new trees and plants.
Gables have been expressed at the top of the development to mimic the chimney features of surrounding dwellings, creating a recognisable form that gives the scheme an identity and responds to the historic townscape of Lewes.
A fabric-first approach and consistent testing throughout the design development have meant that operational energy costs have been kept to a minimum and ensured the building meets all the necessary energy targets. The project has embraced renewable energy sources and efficient heating systems to further improve its sustainable credentials.
