Purley Way, Croydon

ECE have designed and submitted proposals for a mixed-use residential development situated on Purley Way in Croydon.

This is a gateway building in the heart of a newly emerging masterplan for Purley Way, proposing 116 new homes, with community co-working space and a podium level shared amenity garden to create a social hub for residents.

As part of the design development of the scheme, an extensive series of pre-application and bridge meetings were undertaken with the London Borough of Croydon. Design elements have been considered to optimise site orientation, provide a variety of public and semi-public amenity spaces, and elevational treatment that relates to the surrounding environment.

The plan form and material palette strategy for the proposal responds to the heritage assets and the surrounding context. A choice of two different brick blends provides a darker ground level base and a lighter brick for the two taller elements, whilst an accent colour of green glazed brick articulates a further level of detail across the facades.

This twelve-storey development sets a design benchmark for residential living in a challenging environment.
