Added Value
- ECE promoted the use of modular construction and similar building designs to reduce the construction programme for both schools.
- The client benefited from ECE’s extensive BIM experience throughout the project, delivering ESCC’s first BIM pilot project.
- The design incorporates clearstory natural ventilation, maximising natural light and reducing running costs.
Description
Using modern methods of construction two new build primary schools have been designed as a batch project with the sites allowing for identical solutions. This allowed for a short construction program of just 32 weeks, set for initial intake in September 2015.
The Newhaven building sits on an exposed coastal site next to an existing academy, responding to the challenging site levels and enhancing the existing habit on the site.
The Hailsham building sits on a landlocked site surrounded by residential properties and is a unique design response to allow a natural ventilation system throughout and maximise site access in and around the site.
The project has been developed by ECE to RIBA stage 3 to level 2 BIM. The model will be developed further by the modular subcontractor with ECE ensuring compliance with the Employers Information Requirements.
