Holmer Green Senior School

ECE Architecture have received planning approval for a new teaching & sport centre at Holmer Green Senior School in Buckinghamshire.

The proposals address the need for additional school places in the 2 form expansion of the existing 5FE school, and also include a new Sport England compliant sports hall.

Further works include the refurbishment of the undersized sports hall into a dining hall, which opens onto a new central courtyard. It will also provide additional science laboratories and redevelop the existing English department into a dedicated SEN corridor.

Key aims of the project sought to create a high-quality learning environment in an up-to-date building, to current standards and to meet the needs of the students in the expanding school.

ECE have worked closely with Holmer Green Senior School and Buckinghamshire County Council through a comprehensive series of stakeholder and pre-application meetings during the design development process.

Recessed brick panels, together with protruding brickwork, have been used within the elevations to promote shadow-play as well as adding texture and contrast to the composition. Large window openings in the façade and exposed soffits within classrooms ensure good levels of natural light can be achieved deep within the classroom making them feel brighter and more spacious.
