Permission granted at appeal for Holland Road, Hove
ECE are delighted to kickstart 2021 with the news that we have been granted a permission at appeal for a previously developed site in the Brunswick Town Conservation Area, adjacent to Palmeira Yard, a striking Grade II Listed Building in Hove.
The Appeal decision was reached on New Year’s Eve, and grants permission for the demolition of the existing building and erection of a 5-storey mixed use building, comprising of basement and ground floor office space, with nine dwellings to the upper floors.
The mixed-use scheme will increase the employment numbers by providing office space at ground and basement level, with a further nine dwellings to the upper floors.
ECE Architecture and ECE Planning collaborated on this project, to ensure the proposal sought to respect the heritage assets and amenity of residents.
The Inspectors Decision fully endorsed the approach to design, scale and appearance in the context:
“I find that the design of the proposal would have a positive relationship with the adjacent Grade II listed building and the locally listed building.
“It would enhance the setting of both Palmeira Yard and the Hove Hebrew Congregational Synagogue. The proposal would be a modern yet sympathetic addition to the Conservation Area which would enhance the character of the area and its setting”.
