ECE Architecture shortlisted for Barkitecture 2025

As Architects, there are very few types of accommodation we haven’t designed. But there is a first for everything and we can now add “Dog Kennel Design” to our list.

Late last year, we were invited to submit our design for the renowned Barkitecture 2025 Competition, where architects and designers create a bespoke dog kennel to be exhibited and auctioned at the Goodwoof Festival.

We are excited to announce we have been shortlisted for the competition and can now share a sneak peek of our progress so far.

Working under this year’s design brief “From Nature; For Nature”, the initial concept came from the mind of John Barkley, Senior Architect at ECE Architecture, and was further-developed in close collaboration with award-winning local design and make studio, Millimetre. Inspired by the organic, natural shapes of seeds, plants, and nuts, our kennel “In a Nutshell” mimics the protective external shape of a shell and forms a space where our canine companions can feel safe while remaining connected to nature.

The Millimetre team is now busy crafting the kennel out of sustainable timber, with the finished kennel being showcased during the Goodwoof Festival at Goodwood Estate, 17-18th May. During the festival you can see all the shortlisted kennels, which will be judged by a panel led by Kevin McCloud MBE, and you can even place a bid on your favourite kennel during the Bonhams Barkitecture Auction on 18th May. All funds raised during the auction will go to the Wild at Heart Foundation, the chosen charity partner for Goodwoof 2025.

We look forward to sharing more about the making of “In a Nutshell”. Follow us on LinkedIn and Instagram to see the kennel take shape.
