Added Value:
- We developed a master programme, including key milestones through design, technical and constructions to ensure that the project was delivered to meet the clients programme, whilst ensuring the specific needs of Sussex Cricket Club were met in relation to matches and other activities.
- ECE maximised development potential for the site, achieving a 30% increase in unit numbers over the clients original expectation.
- Satisfying the urban design officer that the scheme was appropriate due to proximity to two conservation areas. This was managed by recommending a design review panel, which supported the scheme and ultimately convinced the urban design officer.
ECE’s masterplan proposals for the future of The 1st Central County Ground on Eaton Road in Hove have been approved and work has started on site.
We were selected by Sussex County Cricket Club after a design competition. Rob Andrew, SCCC CEO, felt that:
‘ECE combined expertise, design inspiration and local knowledge that made them the right choice.’
The team have worked with the Club to create a masterplan that delivers exceptional facilities for the cricket club plus a new mixed use development comprising 37 luxury apartments, a new bar/restaurant, flexible commercial space, and a much more visible and attractive entrance to the Ground.
Phased over five years, proposals include redevelopment of the south west corner of the site on Eaton Road. A new conference and event space is also proposed at the south west end of the pitch, with much improved facilities.
At the north end of the Ground, new and improved seating for spectators is proposed, supported with bars, new toilets and refreshment facilities; and the existing hospitality rooms in the south east corner will be replaced with new seating stands.
The proposed Phase 1 development will include replacing several buildings facing onto Eaton Road with a new mix-use development comprising 37 apartments, a new bar/restaurant, flexible commercial space, and a much more visible and attractive entrance to the Ground.
The design draws references from the white chalk cliffs of Sussex and some of the architectural gems in the city, such as the Van Alen building and the art deco Embassy Court.
The proposed developments will provide for highly sustainable new commercial space and homes. Buildings will be highly energy and water efficient, meeting and exceeding the Building Regulations requirements and an Excellent BREEAM rating where applicable.
Solar panels, heat recovery units, underfloor heating, low air leakage highly insulated building envelope, electric car charging, residents travel plan encouraging sustainable transport are some of the initiatives.
